University of Duhok Highlights Three Departments at MEETS 2025
Erbil – September 1, 2025 | University Press Office (UNPO) – The University of Duhok (UOD) showcased its academic excellence and innovation through the participation of three key departments at the 4th Middle East Exhibition and Conference for Education and Technology (MEETS 2025), held on August 21-24, in Erbil under the theme “Leadership in Digital Transformation.”
Representing the university were the Department of Spatial Planning (College of City and Regional Planning), the Department of Biomedical Engineering, (College of Engineering) and the Department of Syriac Language (College of Basic Education) each highlighting the diversity of UOD’s academic and research strengths.
Spatial Planning: Building Sustainable Cities
Led by Vajin Kawa Mahmood, the Department of Spatial Planning engaged visitors on the importance of sustainable urban development and resilient communities.The booth demonstrated projects in urban design, land management, transportation, and environmental sustainability, sparking dialogue with policymakers, students, and advocacy organizations.
Biomedical Engineering: Innovation for Health and Technology
Led by Soleen Jaladat Mohammed, and Zainab MasoudMohammed, the Department of Biomedical Engineering presented its contributions at the intersection of medicine and engineering, including advances in medical devices, imaging technologies, and health-focused innovations.
Syriac Language: Preserving Cultural Heritage
The Department of Syriac Language drew significant attention for its work in preserving and promoting one of the region’s oldest languages. The department showcased its academic programs, cultural research, and initiatives for safeguarding Syriac heritage, while also engaging with students and cultural organizations interested in language and identity studies.
UOD at the Forefront of Education and Innovation
Recognized as Iraq’s premier education and technology trade show, MEETS 2025 brought together 85,000 visitors and 200 exhibitors, creating opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange. The University of Duhok’s multi-department presence demonstrated its commitment to innovation, sustainability, cultural heritage, and applied sciences, positioning UOD as a leading hub for academic excellence in the Kurdistan Region and beyond.
