Call for Participation: The global Ecosia campaign is launching at the University of Duhok!
ِAugust 27, 2026, University Press Office (UNPO) | We are pleased to announce that the University of Duhok has joined the global environmental campaign (Ecosia). With this step, universities in the Kurdistan Region (University of Zakho, Zakho Polytechnic Institute, American University of Iraq Sulaimani, and now the University of Duhok) have become the first universities in the Middle East to participate in this campaign.
Ecosia is a search engine that plants trees through your daily internet searches. For every 45 searches you make (such as searching to buy books or anything else), a tree will be planted in a country around the world in the name of Kurdistan. The more we use the internet through the special link dedicated to Kurdistan, the more trees will be planted in Kurdistan's name, thereby serving the environment.
Regarding the campaign program at the University of Duhok, the Ecosia team will organize its staff to present seminars across all colleges to introduce the project. Furthermore, information desks will be set up to raise awareness about the Carbon Footprint and to show students and teachers a digital way to plant trees via their internet searches. Simultaneously, special videos will be created and shared on the university's website and social media platforms in
collaboration with the Kurdistan-level campaign platform.
For this purpose, we will form a volunteer team to encourage a good number of students and teachers to join, and at the end of the campaign, certificates will be awarded to the participating members. This campaign will be ongoing at the University of Duhok, moving from one college to another until completion.
We invite all academic and administrative staff, as well as students, to download the Ecosia application via the link below and use it for all their daily searches. Together, through digital means, we can serve the global environment and make the name of Kurdistan more prominent worldwide.
