Dr. Dawood Sulaiman Atrushi sent a congratulatory message commemorating the 69^th anniversary of the founding of the Kurdistan Students’ Union and the Kurdistan Democratic Youth Union. Congratulating the students and youth of Kurdistan, in his message, the UoD President demonstrated the importance of these two organizations confirming that “they are true representatives of the Kurdish students and youths and have been, since their establishment, dedicated to speak for them and answer their needs through the different historical periods. The two organizations have been industrious in building and developing students’ capacities according to current international principles.”  

In his message published in his personal Facebook page, the UoD president asked the Kurdistan Students’ Union to continue working hard to develop students’ educational levels asserting that “science is power and countries with substantial education cannot be occupied and discriminated against.”

The congratulatory statement: 

On the occasion of the 69^th anniversary of the founding of the Kurdistan Students’ Union and the Kurdistan Democratic Youth Union, I warmly congratulate all Kurdish students and youths, especially the UoD students. You are the fruit of years of struggle, the bearers of science and knowledge and the future of our beloved country.

The Kurdistan Students’ Union and the Kurdistan Democratic Youth Union, since their founding in 1953 with the recommendation of the spiritual father of the Kurds (Mullah Mustafa Barzani), have been part and parcel of the Kurdish national movement against occupation and oppression. The aim behind their establishment has always been the creation of a well-educated generations of Kurds well aware of their history and struggle for freedom and independence as well as capable maintaining their roles and rights in the community.

Dr. Dawood further talked about the significance of support of the Kurdistan Students’ Union and the Kurdistan Democratic Youth Union to the vision and strategy of the University of Duhok explaining: “The Student Union must reinforce the UoD plans and policies since these are found to create a well-educated student influential in the development of Kurdistan.”
