  • 1- Quantitative structure-activity relationships by correlation analysis:

    A molecular property can be influenced by changing the structure or a substituent on a common structure. This dependence of property-structure generated the so called substituent effect. Correlation analysis is used to construct theoretical models that help in predicting unknown chemical property e.g. rate constant, equilibrium constant, 1H and 13C NMR substituent effect, infra-red frequency, biological activity of certain drugs or biological active molecule.

    2- Solar photosynthesis of fine chemicals:

    An innovative approach in sustainable chemistry by combining solar photochemistry and fine-chemical synthesis. The project contains the design and construction of a simplified solar chemical reactor at the University of Dohuk, laboratory optimization studies and synthetic strategies for fine-chemical synthesis from mainly renewable materials. Four model reactions based on dye-sensitized photooxygenations are proposed, which will furnish important commodity chemicals of commercial or synthetic interest.

    3- Photochromism:

    Synthesis of photochromic materials that have a wide scope of application in material science.

    Photochromic molecules are able to interact with irradiation and to isomerise and hence to change the geometry of the original structure accompanied by colour change. The new isomer can return back to the original form either by different wavelength irradiation or by heat. This phenomenon is interesting because it can be applied in several industrial applications such as reversible optical data storage, smart membranes, biosensors, microfluidics, light-powered molecular machines and molecular shuttles, solar thermal batteries and many other applications. Also, computational chemistry is used to model the investigated photochromic molecules.
