The University of Duhok (UOD), renowned for its commitment to academic and extracurricular excellence, has inaugurated the much-anticipated Faculty Futsal Championship on January  20, 2025. Organized by the University Sports Directorate, the tournament features 13 teams representing various colleges across the university.

Event Inauguration and Distinguished Guests 

The championship kicked off at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences sports hall, with distinguished guests in attendance, including:

• Dr. Nabaz Ibrahim, Vice President for Student Affairs 
• Mr. Ziad Mahfoudh, Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences 
• Dr. Falah Saadoun, Director of the University Sports Directorate 
• Faculty members and students 

Opening Remarks and Strategic Vision

In his keynote address, Dr. Nabaz Ibrahim expressed gratitude to the participating teams and reiterated the university's strategic vision of fostering a vibrant sports culture. He emphasized that such initiatives contribute significantly to:

• Enhancing faculty engagement 
• Promoting well-being 
• Strengthening professional camaraderie 

UOD aims to expand its sports programs to include various disciplines, aligning with its broader mission to promote holistic development.

Opening Match Highlights

The opening match saw an impressive performance by the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences team, securing a resounding victory of 9-2 against the College of Veterinary Medicine. The match, overseen by experienced referees Chia Sabri and Reving Omar, upheld the highest standards of sportsmanship and fair play.

Future Sports Initiatives

The Faculty Futsal Championship is part of a broader effort by UOD to encourage physical fitness and strengthen social bonds within the academic community. As part of UOD’s commitment to student and staff well-being, future events will include:
