  • PhD   Department of Language & Linguistics, University of Essex, UK. 2013.
  • MA  Department of English, College of Arts, University of Mosul, 1997.
  • BA    Department of English, College of Arts, University of Mosul, 1995.

With over 24 years of experience in university-level teaching and research, I have made significant contributions to English language education, linguistics, and academic development across multiple institutions. My expertise covers key fields such as Phonetics, Phonology, Morphology, Syntax, Semantics, Pragmatics, Linguistics, and Pedagogical Grammar.

At the University of Duhok, I have taught a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including Phonetics and Phonology, Grammar, Academic Writing, and Methods of Teaching. My teaching integrates linguistic theory with applied pedagogy, focusing on developing students’ analytical and communicative competence.

Before joining the University of Duhok, I taught at the Teacher Training Institutes in Sirte and Bani-Waleed, Libya, delivering courses in Reading Comprehension, Writing, Grammar, Listening and Speaking, and General Linguistics. These experiences strengthened my ability to adapt teaching strategies to diverse linguistic and cultural settings.

In addition to formal teaching, I have conducted departmental workshops and seminars on topics such as Research Methods for ELT, Linguistic Universals, and Effective Academic Presentations, designed to enhance the academic and research capacities of both students and staff.

Since completing my PhD at the University of Essex (UK), I have participated in numerous international conferences and training programs. I presented at academic conferences at both the University of Essex and the University of Manchester, where I engaged with global experts in linguistics and language research.

After returning to Duhok, I drafted and coordinated a successful proposal for the Erasmus+ Teachers Mod Program for Capacity Building, a collaborative initiative involving five universities in Kurdistan. As the program coordinator, I organized and participated in a series of workshops and training sessions at the University of Granada (Spain), the University of Alto Douro in Vila Real (Portugal), and the University of Pavia (Italy). These engagements focused on enhancing teaching quality, developing modern pedagogical frameworks, and fostering cross-university collaboration.

I have also been part of an international research project in collaboration with the University of Sussex (UK), focusing on heritage documentation and cultural linguistics. This project included participation in several international conferences, including one held in Palermo, Italy, at the Centre for Religious Studies, where we presented work on heritage and community narratives.

Currently, I am a member of the English Language Curriculum Reform Program supervised by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Erbil, under the consultancy of Professor Simon Borg. This national initiative aims to reform English language curricula in universities in Kurdistan, aligning them with international standards and communicative teaching methodologies.

I also have extensive supervision experience at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. I have supervised numerous BA, MA, and PhD theses in linguistics, phonetics, TESOL, and English language pedagogy. My supervision emphasizes methodological precision, independent inquiry, and critical engagement with linguistic research, and several of these projects have produced high quality, publishable work.
