On September 2, 2024, the Center for Gender Equality Studies at the University of Duhok, in collaboration with GAVtv Media Agency, successfully conducted a training program for women journalists from Duhok City. Held at the Pedagogical, the 4-day training program will be hosted from September 2 to 5, 2024 aimed to empower women journalists, enhance their professional skills, and equip them to address societal issues effectively.

Twenty women journalists, including those with bachelor's or diploma degrees in media-related fields, participated in the training. The program covered a wide range of topics, including legal frameworks, media ethics, journalism techniques, and professional development. Through lectures, seminars, and group activities, participants gained valuable insights and practical skills.

Ms. Dileen Sardar Zuhdi, Director of the Center for Gender Equality Studies at the University of Duhok, emphasized the importance of supporting women journalists in their professional development.

She stated, "Given the crucial role of media in society, we believe it is essential to provide women journalists with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed.

This training program aims to empower them and equip them to address societal challenges in a constructive and informed manner."

Ms. Hozan Abdullah, a journalist at GAVtv Media Agency and supervisor of the training program, highlighted its significance as a pioneering initiative in Duhok City. She emphasized the collaborative effort between the Center for Gender Equality Studies and GAVtv Media Agency in organizing this valuable training opportunity for women journalists.

Renowned Journalist Shares International Media Experiences

Mr. Diyar Kurdi, the Director of Rudaw Media in Washington, D.C., joined the training program as a distinguished guest speaker titled "Empowering Journalists and Media Women" organized by the Center for Gender Equality Studies at the University of Duhok with the sponsorship of GAVtv Media Agency.

Mr. Kurdi shared his valuable insights on the experiences of journalists in various countries and discussed how they navigate the complexities of media work within the framework of international laws.

Distinguished Kurdish Journalist Participates in Training Program

Mr. Kurd, a renowned journalist based in Washington, D.C., delivered a keynote address at the training program titled "Empowering Journalists and Media Women" organized by the Center for Gender Equality Studies at the University of Duhok with the sponsorship of GAVtv Media Agency.

In his speech, Mr. Kurd discussed the rights and responsibilities of journalists, as well as the specific challenges faced by women in the field.
