Dec. 12, 2018, 10:03 p.m.

TUMS held a workshop to share the experience of instructional design, implementation, and evaluation of TUMS' e-learning system with other universities participating in OPATEL. Presenting this regional experience would help to achieve OPATEL objectives and improve e-learning activities. This will help TUMS to benefit from provided feedbacks and benchmarking its activities with European standards.

As mentioned in detailed description of OPATEL the aim of this project is "establishing and developing a center to train staff and students in Iranian and Iraqi Universities by using Online Platform for Teaching and Learning to be as a hub for using best practices in ICT in education, as well as raising competencies of lecturers and teachers by enhancing the learning processes of students."

For this purpose, training workshops are held for participants from above-mentioned countries. The University of Patras held a five-day workshop in November 2017 to introduce the best practices from the case of Greece. Another week-long workshop would be held by Instituto Superior de PaҪos de Brandão from Portugal in April 2018. Meanwhile, Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) from Iran, as one of the OPATEL participants, is the pioneer of virtual learning among Iranian universities.

The University applies a user-friendly Learning Management System (LMS) and deploys different strategies including training workshops for faculty members to promote e-learning/blended learning in all educational departments. Virtual School of TUMS, established in 2010, has been delegated as "The Center of Excellence for Elearning in Medical Education" since 2011.
