On October 28, 2024, the President of the University of Duhok, Dr. Dawood Sulaiman Atrushi, visited the College of Science to meet with students from the Chemistry Department and members of UOD’s International Student Chapter, known as UOD_ACS, which is a branch of the American Chemical Society (ACS).

Accompanied by the Director of the UOD Presidency Office, Dr. Bahzad Mohammed, Dr. Dawood met with the Dean of the College of Science, Dr. Mohammed Aziz, the Chemistry Department Head, Dr. Soleen Saeed, and the supervisor and founder of the UOD_ACS Chapter, Dr. Suhad Yaseen, along with the student members. The main goal of the visit was to learn about the chapter’s members, objectives, needs, and activities. The UOD President expressed his gratitude for their initiative.

During the meeting, the team leader of the Chapter delivered a presentation highlighting recent updates and achievements. The meeting focused on the Chapter's accomplishments, including the commendable award received for the 2023-2024 year, which was granted after an evaluation by the ACS. The UOD_ACS International Chapter looks forward to attaining even greater awards in the coming year. The UOD President assured the students that the university fully supports such scientific initiatives and is prepared to take necessary actions to help the Chapter reach new heights.

The meeting served as a significant morale boost for the Chapter’s members, motivating them to enhance their efforts in future activities.

Founded in 2022, the UOD_ACS International Chapter is the first of its kind in Kurdistan and Iraq, established as a branch of the ACS following sustained efforts by students from the Department of Chemistry at the College of Science. The ACS is open to any university worldwide, acting as a gateway for connecting with international chemistry students and engaging in chemistry-themed activities aimed at benefiting science and society. The UOD_ACS International Student Chapter is always ready to support other universities in Kurdistan and Iraq in establishing their own ACS chapters.
