The College of Pharmacy Celebrates World Pharmacist Day

On September 25, 2024, the College of Pharmacy, in collaboration with the Kurdistan Student Union (KSU), held the Pharmacy Day Symposium at UOD’s Convention Center. The event brought together professors, students, representatives from political parties, the Duhok Health Directorate, the Pharmacists Syndicate, and deans from various UOD colleges.

The symposium began with welcoming remarks from KSU members Abdullah Sardar and Ishaq Mahmood, who emphasized the rights of pharmacists in the Duhok region and called for improved job opportunities and privileges in the healthcare sector. Dr. Suzan Rasool, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, then congratulated attendees, highlighting the essential role pharmacists play in healthcare and community support.

Dr. Shiler Abdulrahman, representing the Pharmacists Syndicate, discussed the syndicate's role in promoting professional standards and protecting the rights of its members. Following her, Dr. Karwan Dhirar from the Duhok Health Directorate provided an overview of local healthcare facilities, noting the presence of 12 hospitals and 12 health centers in the region.

Pharmacist Hishyar Ibrahim introduced the Kurdistan Pharmacy Students Association (KPSA), a community of over 1,200 pharmacy students linked to the International Pharmaceutical Students Federation (IPSF), which organizes various activities each year.

The event featured a scientific session chaired by Dr. Fouad K. Mohammed and Dr. Hivi M. Mahmoud, with presentations from Dr. Hind Almofty, Dr. Ghazwan Ahmed, and Ass. Prof. Manhal Abdulkader. They discussed topics such as Artificial Intelligence in Modern Pharmacy, Computerization in Drug Discovery, and the Role of Social Media in Clinical Pharmacy, providing valuable insights into the impact of technology on the pharmaceutical field.

The session concluded with discussions between speakers and attendees. The event ended with awards for distinguished individuals and an exhibition showcasing students’ graduation projects.
