From Zakho to Sweden: Kurdish Neurologist Dr. Bzhar Najjar Shares His Inspiring Medical Journey at University of Duhok

The University of Duhok (UOD), through the Department of History at the College of Basic Education and in collaboration with the Beşikҫi Center for Humanity Research, hosted a thought-provoking seminar featuring Dr. Bzhar Ibrahim Najjar, a renowned Kurdish neurologist specializing in brain and nerve diseases.
The seminar, held in the College of Basic Education Hall, was attended by Dr. Salah M. Saleem Mahmoud, Director of the Beşikҫi Center for Humanity Research, along with a large number of faculty members, researchers, and students. The event reflected UOD’s strategic commitment to promoting interdisciplinary learning and connecting academic communities with global experts.
A Journey of Scientific Excellence and Kurdish Pride
Dr. Bzhar Ibrahim Najjar, originally from the Zakho Independent Administration and residing in Sweden who has recently returned to Kurdistan, has made remarkable contributions to the field of neurology and represents a source of pride for the Kurdish scientific diaspora.
In his presentation, Dr. Najjar shared insights from his medical and research journey in Sweden, where he has contributed to the development of innovative treatments for neurological disorders. He detailed his early academic path, challenges in the international medical field, and milestones that highlight the global impact of Kurdish professionals in medicine.
Understanding Brain and Nerve Strokes
During the seminar, Dr. Najjar discussed in detail the causes, symptoms, and treatment approaches for brain and nerve strokes, emphasizing the importance of preventive healthcare, including physical exercise, balanced nutrition, and public health awareness.
He also shed light on the negative impact of fat-rich diets and the health risks associated with smoking and hookah, urging young people to adopt healthy lifestyles and contribute to building a more health-conscious society.
