Iraqi Embassy in the Netherlands Welcomes College of Law Delegation Participating in International Moot Court Competition

The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in the Kingdom of the Netherlands welcomed a delegation from the University of Duhok (UOD) during its participation in the 13th International Bar Association (IBA) International Criminal Court (ICC) Moot Court Competition, held in The Hague from 12–19 June 2026.

Upon the delegation’s arrival in the Netherlands on 12 June 2026, representatives of the Iraqi Embassy extended a warm welcome to the University of Duhok team. The embassy later hosted the delegation at a special reception on 16 June 2026, in recognition of the university’s participation in one of the world’s leading international legal competitions.

The delegation was received by:

  • Dr. Raad Harjan, Counselor and Head of Mission
  • Suzan Ahmed Aqrawi, Counselor and Permanent Representative of Iraq to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW)
  • Ibrahim Khalil, Counselor
  • Noor Abdulzahra, Second Secretary

During the meeting, the embassy representatives commended the University of Duhok for representing Iraq in a prestigious international academic forum and praised the efforts of the College of Law in preparing students to compete at the global level. They emphasized that the participation of Iraqi university students in such international events reflects the growing capabilities of Iraq’s higher education sector and contributes to strengthening the country's academic presence worldwide.

The embassy also highlighted the importance of international academic engagement in developing students’ professional and leadership skills, particularly in specialized fields such as international law and legal advocacy. The representatives expressed their appreciation for the University of Duhok’s commitment to providing students with opportunities to engage in international educational experiences and to interact with leading legal institutions and experts.

During the reception, the embassy reaffirmed its readiness to support future University of Duhok delegations and students participating in international academic, educational, and professional activities abroad. The representatives stressed the importance of continued cooperation between Iraqi diplomatic missions and Iraqi universities in supporting student excellence and expanding international opportunities for young scholars.

The visit reflected a shared commitment to promoting Iraqi academic excellence, strengthening international cooperation, and empowering students to become active contributors to the global academic and professional community.
