University of Duhok Celebrates World Theatre Day with Student Performances and Artistic Tributes

Two Parallel Events Showcase the Intersection of Art, Culture, and Academic Excellence

Duhok, April 15, 2025 | University of Press Office (UNPO); In a vibrant celebration of World Theatre Day, the University of Duhok (UOD) reaffirmed its dedication to nurturing creativity, cultural dialogue, and student talent through two simultaneous events organized by the College of Fine Arts. These initiatives highlight UOD’s ongoing commitment to the Strategic Plan 2023–2038, emphasizing the role of arts in community engagement, academic innovation, and youth development.

🎭 “De Çikên” – A Stage for Student Voices

In the main event held at the UOD Student Center, theatre students presented a powerful and thought-provoking performance titled “De Çikên” ("What Shall We Do?"), written and directed by Mohammed Idris, a student from the Department of Theatre. The performance was supervised by instructor Mr. Nawzad Mikail, and drew wide attendance from faculty, staff, and guests.

🎨 Art and Sound: A Multisensory Tribute at the UOD Central Library

Simultaneously, the UOD Central Library hosted a captivating visual art and music event under the supervision of Dr. Luqman Hadi Hassan, Vice President of the University. Supervised by Peace Cell Project Organization, led by Dr. Sarbast Ahmed Mustafa, from the Department of Visual Arts, the program honored renowned Japanese composer Kai Watanabe.

The interactive installation featured:

  • A tribute music performance composed in the style of Watanabe
  • Original visual pieces by students Chalang Adel and Shan Faisa Mohammed
  • An immersive ambiance blending sound, sculpture, and digital media

This event served not only as an artistic homage but as a platform for students to experiment with interdisciplinary forms of expression and cultural reflection.
