Bridging Abstract Theory and Daily Life through Innovation and Creativity

📍UOD May 3, 2025 – University Press Office (UNPO) | In a vibrant celebration of mathematical creativity and its real-world relevance, the Department of Mathematics at the College of Science (CSCN), University of Duhok (UOD), hosted a dynamic student-led exhibition titled “The Search for Beauty and the Power of Mathematics.” Held on Monday, April 14, 2025, the exhibition brougt together faculty, students, and invited guests to explore how mathematical concepts shape our understanding of both beauty and functionality in the modern world.

The event was held under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mohammed Aziz Ibrahim, Dean of the College of Science, and attended by Dr. Mohammed Hussein Khalil, the Vice Dean and Dr. Nareen Sabih Muhemed, the Head of the Department of Mathematics. It featured an impressive collection of student-designed posters and project models, demonstrating the practical applications of mathematics in architecture, nature, computer science, and everyday problem-solving.

🎓 Empowering Students through Experiential Learning

This exhibition is part of UOD’s broader efforts to foster experiential and project-based learning, in line with its Strategic Plan 2023–2038, which emphasizes:

  • Enhancing student engagement through interactive, research-based learning
  • Promoting STEM education and mathematical innovation
  • Encouraging interdisciplinary learning and creative expression
  • Building a knowledge-based economy through applied science
  • Integrating education with community awareness and outreach

By merging art, technology, and logical reasoning, students showcased how mathematics can be used to interpret natural patterns, build sustainable models, and address real-world challenges.

🧠 Highlights from the Exhibition

  • Posters & Infographics explaining mathematical theories through visual storytelling

  • Projects illustrating symmetry in architecture and algorithmic models in modern tech

  • Hands-on demonstrations that allowed visitors to experience math-based design thinking

The event sparked interactive discussions between students and faculty, offering a platform for young scholars to communicate the relevance of mathematics to a wider audience.

🌍 Positioning UOD as a Hub for Scientific Creativity

The College of Science continues to serve as a leader in promoting student innovation and cross-disciplinary thinking. Events like this reflect UOD’s commitment to nurturing scientific literacy, creativity, and global competency among its students.

By bridging the gap between abstract concepts and real-world applications, the Department of Mathematics reinforces the university’s mission to produce graduates who are not only academically excellent but also equipped with the problem-solving skills needed for the 21st century.
