After three years of working with plant tissue transplantation techniques, the College of Agricultural Engineering at UOD has been able to create two new varieties of potatoes for the first time.

Dr. Rafail Shlemon Toma, a teacher at the Department of Horticulture at the College of Agricultural Engineering at UOD, said that the process of producing new potato seeds at UOD will start in 2020 during a team of plantation engineers from UOD in collaboration with Kartop Agricultural Company in Duhok Province and Some Dutch experts have done this and were able to register them as two new varieties through the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of the Kurdistan Region in the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture.

It is worth mentioning that these two varieties of potatoes will be at the service of farmers in the Kurdistan Region and instead of relying on foreign varieties will be able to rely on domestic varieties. The University of Duhok is proud that its academic staff can serve their region and country in various fields with their knowledge and research.
