T‏he students of the UOD are the first university students in Kurdistan Region and Iraq to become members of the American Chemical Society, and to open their own chapter under the name "UoD_ACS International Student" in the American Chemical Society.

This success was achieved under the supervision of Dr. Suhad Abdulrahman Yasin, an academic member at the Chemistry Department of the College of Science. She previously was a member at the ACS. Then she attempted to have a number of students as members at the ACS. The ACS eventually gave them consent. And the membership of the UOD students started with 6 students, which are currently approximately 30 students from the both departments of Chemistry of College of Science, and Sciences of the College of Basic Education.

On her side, Asmaa Kareem, a 4th year student at the Department of Chemistry at the College of Science, expressed her tendency to engage in scientific activities with the students. She mentioned that it's so important to be active, and being a member of the ACS is a great achievement for the students.

The actual start date of the membership was September 1, 2022. Moreover, this membership requires sustainable activity and work by the students. Also, the ACS usually provides fundings and rewards to its members upon their activities. It provides scholarships, internships and other sorts of opportunities to its members.

‏Also, due to the activities of the students of the Department of Chemistry in the College of Science of the UOD, they were able to receive the Shield of Thanks and Appreciation within one year.
