In the framework of its joint project with the Lutheran World Federation Iraq (LWF-Iraq), Baghdad Women’s Association (BWA) and Alternatives to Violence (AVP) movement with support from the Church of Sweden, CPCRS has conducted a 2-day training on Community Conflict Management from 28 to 29 September 2021, at the UoD Cultural Center.

A total of 17 participants, from Duhok and Sumel districts, have participated in this training, of which 6 were females and 11 males; 5 were IDPs while 11 were from the host community and 1 was a refugee. Among the participants, 15 were Muslim, 1 Yazidi and 1 Christian.

The first day of the workshop focused on the concept of conflict; causes of conflict; positions and interests in conflicts; Galtung’s conflict triangle; theory of violence and conflict tree. During the second day of the workshop the participants were introduced to and trained on the following topics: communication skills; Juhari window; concept of peace; peace mapping; peace tree; sources & analysis of power; do no harm principle; connectors and dividers; community initiatives; social cohesion; and social cohesion initiatives. To determine how effective this workshop was, data was generated through the distribution of standardized evaluation forms on the first and second day of the workshop.
