The First Urban Planning Conference in Kurdistan Region

The College of City and Regional Planning participated in the First Urban Planning conference held by the Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism in Kurdistan region.

On Sunday, 30th of June, 2024, the Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism in Kurdistan region and the General Directorate of Urban Planning in collaboration with related colleges and universities in Kurdistan region held the first Urban Planning conference under the slogan “The Importance of Urban Planning in Implementing the Kurdistan region’s policies for the Development of Cities and Towns”.

The Minister of Municipalities and Tourism, the Council of Ministers, several governors and administrators of the Kurdistan Region's independent administrations, all attended the conference. In addition, the conference was attended by a number of international non-governmental organization representatives, college representatives and academia, and engineers from various government directorates, and others.

Numerous talks, panels, short films, and presentations on urban planning-related subjects were held during the conference. These included, among other things, the following: climate change resilience in urban planning; ecological approaches for planning sustainable cities; smart cities and energy-efficient buildings; and the significance of organizing parking and transportation within cities.

At the end of the conference, recommendations and guidelines were proposed for improving the Urban Development and built environment of Kurdistan region’s cities.
