Basic conflict resolution skills training

The Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies organized and conducted a 3-day training on Basic Conflict Resolution Skills on 25-26-27 January 2020 at the University of Duhok Cultural Center. The workshop was one of the center’s activities within the project “Building Youth Capacity to Engage Meaningfully in Social Cohesion Initiatives”, funded and supported by the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). Twenty UoD Students (8 males, 12 females) were participated in the training, of them 10% were Muslim, 15% Yazidi, 10% Christian and 5% Non. The participated students were from the UoD departments of Sociology (8), Accounting (2), Applied Geoscience (1), Spatial planning (1), Banking (1), English (1), Translation (1), Forests (1), Geography (1), Public Policy (1), Tourism (1) and Veterinary Medicine (1).

The workshop aimed at building conflict resolution skills of the participants. Topics of the workshop included the concept of violence, conflict and peace; approaches to conflict; identity; diversity; do no harm; connectors and dividers; third party roles; social cohesion; dialogue & communication skills; gender issues and social roles.

Mr. Omed Mohamad Taher Muqdad and Mr. Vaheel Jabbar Chalabi facilitated the workshop; both are instructors at the UoD Department of Peace and Human Rights Studies.
