Nursing college is established in 2007 in response to the demand of nursing professionals and due to the fact that nursing profession is of a vital importance to the region taking into consideration the advancements made in medical sciences in general. Nursing college is committed to playing an active role in fulfilling the needs of the community, thus it aims at improving health services in Duhok province. The Collage provides up-to-date education in both theoretical and practical fields of nursing. Medical sciences as well as liberal arts courses are integrated within the curriculum to provide the necessary background to support the basic theoretical knowledge needed by competent nurses to provide care for healthy and sick individuals and families in various primary, secondary and tertiary health care settings. The curriculum adopts a problem-solving approach to nursing practices to enable graduates to cope with more complex and diverse nursing situations. The Collage of Nursing has earned a reputation for uncompromised excellence in: Research, Teaching Clinical practice and public service. The college has four main branches namely Adult nursing and fundamental of nursing, psychiatric and pediatric health nursing, community and maternity health nursing, and basic science. The college has six teaching halls, two seminar halls, and five laboratories for clinical practice.
The college has graduated 488 undergraduate students since 2011 to the present. The College of Nursing provides postgraduate studies at master and doctoral levels. The master program in Nursing College established in 2013 and the college graduated 41 postgraduate students in different specialties including adult nursing, pediatric nursing, psychiatric nursing, community health nursing, and maternity health nursing since it has been established. In addition, the doctoral study is established in 2017 and currently 16 PhD students are studying in different specialty including three adult nursing, three Psychiatric nursing, and 7 pediatric nursing, three Maternity nursing and one community nursing. It is worth noting that the first PhD graduation was in 2020.
