The School of Law held its Second Cultural Season


The School of Law at the Faculty of Law and Administration at the UoD hosted activities for its second cultural season entitled “Towards Better Culture of Law” on Sunday, 20th of May 2012, lasting for two days.
 
Opening the meeting, Dr. Luqman M. Saleh, Acting President of the UoD delivered a speech in which he spoke about the importance of respect for the law and its application,and where it can generate a conscious and healthy community.  Therefore, the UoD has continuous and endless support for the School of Law’s cultural seasons, which will surely meet the needs and ambitions of the community in this regard.

The first day of the meeting was divided into two sessions. In the first session three topics were discussed. First to speak was Judge.Rezgar M.Ameen, a member of the Court of Cassation in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). Judge Rezgar emphasized on the curriculum received by students at all KRG universities, how it should contain the contents and applications of the Courts of Law.

Judge , Mr. Mohamedamin  Sherafani,President of the Appeal Court in Duhok was next to speak. In his lecture, he confirmed that there was no interference in the KRG courts by political parties, regional government or local administration. He went on to say, citizens should approach the culture of the law, and have trust in the judicial system, not seek mediation theory to resolve their cases, this could lead to impeachment.

In the final lecture of the first session, Member of Parliament in the Kurdistan Regional Government, M’s Amina Zkri, referred to the active role of women in Parliament of the Kurdistan Region. She went on to mention there were a total of 42 women out of 111 members within the Parliament chambers. These women all have active roles in contributing to law making and to study laws that apply in our courts.

In the second session, Dr. Abdulhameed Baqi gave a lecture on the role of law in the protection of religious shrines. There was no policy to be adopted for this purpose due to conflicts between Shiites and Sunnis in Iraq.
Meanwhile, MP, Dr. Farhad Atroshi of the Iraqi Parliament spoke about the ways of lawmaking, the stages of voting and decision-laws.
 
On the second day, a documentary film of the production and preparation of the International Red Cross (IRC) was presented. Also, a number of students from School of Law took part in a virtual court, in order to become acquainted with application procedures which take place in courts and how to use these methods effectively.
